Corozal Hospital Receives Defibrillator

Nurse Lourdes Heredia and Dr. Nelson Marin both have training in the use of this machine. A charger and new batteries were donated along with masks and tubing.
Serenity Sands has been instrumental in obtaining these supplies.
Corozal to Benefit from Supplies and Training
Sat 15 Aug 2009—Corozal is the beneficiary of medical equipment which Larry Smith of the Red Cross estimated to be worth about $175,000 BZ, to used by first responders in the area. ... show/hideThe supplies were donated through the efforts of Phyl Mason of Edmonton, Canada, and imported duty free thanks to the help of Hon. Pablo Marin, Minister of Health. This equipment is being made into trauma kits to be used by the police, the fire department, a triage team, the villages, and the hospital.
Hon. Pablo Marin is helping organize training for the use of these kits, including Red Cross First Aid and CPR training. Nurse Guillermina Heredia, Deputy Regional Health Manager of the North, and Larry Smith of the Red Cross are involved in the planning. Doctors from Belmopan will be doing the five-day training for the first responders.
Serenity Sands has been instrumental in this project. This is a pilot project in Corozal and will hopefully will be continued in other areas of Belize.

Local Man is Chief of Staff
Tue 13 Oct 2009—Since January 2009, Dr. Marin has been Chief of Staff at the Corozal Community Hospital ... show/hideDr. Nelson Marin is a Corozal native, studied in Mexico, headed up health organizations in Mexico, and returned to his beloved Corozal in January of 2009 to offer his dedication and service to the people of his home town.
The Ministry of Health has purchased $1.6 worth of supplies to be distributed throughout the country. The equipment includes hospital beds, bassinets, paediatric cribs, delivery tables, dental equipment, fetal monitors, examination tables, incubators, nebulizers and wheelchairs.
Hon. Pablo Marin is sponsoring a summer football program for kids, ages 7-15, to provide training in technique, sportsmanship, and rules. A professional football player, Rogelio Pedro Barahona, is heading up the training. This will continue until school starts, and then there will be programs provided for the schools.
Anyone is welcome to come to this activity. It's 2 - 5 pm Monday through Friday.
Hon. Pablo Marin is usually in the Corozal office on Thursdays. You can drop by the office on 4th Ave and make an appointment. There will be notifications on this website if changed, and we will keep you posted regarding his schedule and activities.
